How to Care for Flowering House Plants
If
you’re like most people, you enjoy the beauty of flowering house plants
but just are not sure how to take good care of them. A lot of us just
aren’t born with a green thumb. If you learn about these plants, you
can learn to nourish them and be able to enjoy them for years.
The first thing you want to do is make sure they are in the right type
of soil. The type of soil that is best for the plants is the same type
of soil they enjoyed in the garden or in the wild. That is why if at all possible you
should choose potted house plants because they will already
have the soil with the nutrients they need. Otherwise, you need to
research on the type of plant you have to determine the best soil.
Be sure you are giving your plant the right amount of water. Too much
water and you’ll cause the soil to erode, making the roots unstable.
Too little water and the pretty plant could end up with yellow leaves
or even end up losing leaves. The surest way to make sure your
flowering house plants are getting the right amount of water is to use
a house plant moisture meter.
Most people make the mistake of using water directly from the tap. This
causes a couple of different problems. First, unless the water is room
temperature, you could shock the plant, causing it harm. Second, your
tap water is likely to contain chemicals that your plant won’t
appreciate. If you allow the water to sit in an open container for 24
hours, you know it’s going to be at room temperature. 24 hours is also
enough time to allow the chemicals to evaporate.
Don’t forget, your plant also needs sunlight to thrive.
