Landscaping Tips and Advice

The Zone System for Landscape Gardening

If you are a gardener or a landscaper and you want the best results possible then the Zone System is perfect for you. The Zone System was created by the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) and it divides the land into eleven different zones based on the average temperatures in the winter time. Zone One is the coldest and Zone Eleven is the warmest.

Knowing what Zone System you are in is essential in choosing the right type of plants to use on your landscape. A map of the Eleven Zones can be found online all over the internet. The climate you are in greatly differentiates the type of soil you have, the amount of precipitation you receive and other important factors when growing plants.

Once you know which Zone System you are in, you can determine which plants will thrive the best in your Zone System type. Obviously you want to landscape with plants that are for your certain Zone System if not very close to the Zone System you are in to maximize your results.

A desert plant that grows well in dry soil with very cold temperatures at night and very hot temperatures in the day is not going to do well in a moist, warm zone that gets a lot of rain. That is what makes the landscaping Zone System a great tool and guide to follow when looking for the right greenery to plant in your area.

If you choose the right types of plants then your landscape is sure to flourish and give you very beautiful results that everyone can enjoy. From the type of grass, to the shrubbery, to the flowers, herbs and vegetables you grow, it is very important to know what Zone System you are in so that you can maximize your plants growing possibilities and to give you the most beautiful results possible.
