Decking
There are Many Types of Decking Available
Decking is one of the
best ways to enhance the look of your backyard. However, picking the
type of decking for your home can be overwhelming. There are many
different styles that can compliment almost anyone’s backyard décor.
Before you pick a style of decking you need to consider the benefits of
each type. Here are a few of the most common decking types and the pros
and cons of each.
Wood Decking
When most people think of building a deck they think of a wood deck.
Wood decks are great because they can be elevated to the level of your
home or pool unlike other types of decks. Wood decks are also beautiful
and blend in with scenic backyards. However, wood decks require regular
maintenance or they will rot. The decks will need to be cleaned and
resealed about once a year, which can be costly and time consuming.
Brick Pavers
Brick pavers are a popular choice for homeowner’s who want a
traditional and grand feeling deck. Brick pavers are especially nice
for environmentally sensitive areas because they allow water to flow
through the cracks and return back to the groundwater supply. However,
brick pavers are an expensive decking option. Once they are installed
they do not require as much maintenance as wood decks, but weeds and
grass will grow through the grass and weed killer must be applied
regularly.
Decorative Concrete
Decorative concrete decking provides a beautiful deck with little
maintenance. A high quality decorative concrete contractor can make
your deck look as if it were bricks, slate, or cobblestone. Decorative
concrete is also available in a variety of colors that can be
customized to your liking. The only disadvantage to decorative concrete
is that overtime you may see minor cosmetic cracking.
