Laminate Flooring Laminate flooring has become a popular alternative to real hardwood flooring. It is not only comparable in looks, it is usually less expensive. The durability of laminate flooring is rated 1-4. 1-2 is usually for light traffic areas, whereas 3-4 is generally used for high traffic areas and commercial use.

You will also need underlay to use beneath the flooring. This is thin foam like material. It may be purchased as a moisture/sound barrier - all in one.

Laminate flooring is easy to install and takes a day or two depending upon the area. It requires a basic floor installation kit and a saw.
