Lighting Tips and Advice

Home Lighting

When decorating your home nothing sets the mood more or adds more character to a room than lighting. Good lighting can focus attention on a particular object or painting, it can add energy to a room and good lighting can even direct people where to go and where to sit without them realizing it.

It seems simple right? But as you begin to decorate your home carefully consider how and why you want to light a room. Ask yourself what will the room be used for? How much time will you spend it in? There are literally dozens of colors, shades and brightness levels of light available and even the smallest difference can make a huge impact on your decor.

Soft lights and yellow tones are good for living rooms and kitchens or anywhere you'd prefer the mood to be low key and relaxing. Bright high intensity lights are great for bathrooms while blue tones are good to read by as they are less harsh to the eyes.

Once you know what you'll need the light for selecting a shade and lamp can be fun. Asian style lamps have become extremely popular recently for their simplicity and elegance. Many large lamp manufacturers now offer a variety of styles ranging from neon plastic’s for fun energetic rooms to demur copper and brass lamps for a more conservative look.

Matching your personal style to your lamp is important as lighting can affect your mood quickly and easily. For the more adventurous many stores now offer do it yourself kits so you can custom create a lamp just the way you want it.
