Climbing Rope - How to choose good rope for climbing
How to Choose a Good Climbing Rope - Climbing
can be a fun outdoor activity, you just need to be sure you choose a
good climbing rope. The thicker the rope, the stronger it is. Remember
that you are going to be lugging the rope to the place you’re going to
climb, so make sure you select one that is not too heavy. For single
ropes, you should choose one that is at least 10 millimeters in
diameter.
The length of the climbing rope is just as important as its diameter.
If you’re an experienced climber, you might want to go with a longer
rope which allows you to rappel greater distances. If you’re a climber
who’s just getting started, take a look into getting a shorter rope.
They won’t weigh you down and can fit more easily into your backpack.
When selecting a good climbing rope, pay attention to the strength of
the rope. You most likely do not want a rope that stretches too much
because that could increase your chances of hitting the ground or the
ledge.
You should select a dry-treated climbing rope as these are easier to
handle when they get wet. If you choose one that is not treated, then
when it gets soggy it will absorb moisture. When the weather turns
cold, the water that is absorbed into non treated ropes can freeze and
weaken them. Therefore, a dry-treated climbing rope is a good choice.
You will need to re-waterproof your climbing rope when the treatment
wears off.
