Surf Boards
Surf Boards are solid platforms that are used in surfing. Most surf boards are light in weight yet are strong enough to hold a person.
The surf board was first created in Hawaii and was constructed from local trees. Early surf boards were usually very tall and heavy. These types of boards are often referred to as Long boards.
Today surf boards are made out of foam and covered with fiberglass. This method of making surf boards makes light and strong surfboards. Maneuverability is also increased by this method. The two most common surf boards are the short board and the long board.
The shortboard is typically between five to seven feet tall. It has a pointed nose and a more square tail. There are usually three fins but can have either two or five fins. The short board is best for quick maneuvering. Due to its lack of flotation it is harder to catch waves and often requires a larger wave to get a going.
Longboards are a single finned board. They have a rounded nose and measures anywhere from nine to 14 feet long. The long board has great buoyancy and is easier for surfers to ride small waves. The long board dates all the way back to the sixth century where Hawaiians used wooden surf boards measuring between eight to twenty four feet tall. Everyone surfed in Hawaii but the tallest boards were reserved for royalty.
In conclusion, there are numerous surf boards to choose from. The long board is best for beginners because of the frequency and ease of catching a wave. The short board is for the more experienced surfer.
